The ultimate food guide to get a real taste of local cuisine. What to eat and where to eat it.
Tlacoyos
By far my favorite street food in Mexico City this large oval shaped corn dough cakes that are traditionally filled with requesón (a cheese similar to ricotta) or fried beans and topped with red or green salsa, sour cream and grated cheese. Try the ones from

Tacos al pastor
This soft corn tortilla filled with pork meat marinated in guajillo salsa (a mild red salsa) and usually topped with fresh onion, coriander and a slice of pineapple is the most seeked type of taco among Mexicans. El Califa with more than 15 restaurants across the city is one of the best places to go.
Tip: Never ask for hard shell tacos in Mexico!

Tortas
The Mexican torta is the king of sandwiches. A soft bun filled with anything you can imagine from refried beans, breaded chicken, pork meat, creamy avocado, onions and tomato to chilaquiles (fried corn torillas with hot salsa) or tamales (a corn bread filled with meat and salsa). We Mexicans love to create crazy combinations. For gourmet tortas you must try La Barraca Valenciana

Churros
This well known dessert is a favourite between Mexicans and
Churreria El Moro is the most famous place to eat churros with chocolate. Started as a small stand in Mexico City Centre now has over 10 instagrammable restaurants all over the city.
Tip: Try the consuelos, an ice cream churro sandwich and their delicious milkshakes.
