In this year’s performance, we saw the story of the Danse Macbre unfold. The highly anticipated parade featured a towering puppet of an elderly women with mesmerisingly, refined details, from her artificial wrinkles to her woven clothes. Accompanying her were incognito stilted men, seen stumbling about as their distinctive glowing eyes beamed into the stunned crowds. Following them, a screaming bride awaiting her groom. Standing on a float of wooden planks, she recites her vows as her bridesmaids perform a graceful, hypnotic routine beneath her.

The music, colour, costume, detail and performances in the midst of the smoky streets is unlike anything else one can imagine. Macnas aim to extract the most fanciful thoughts from the human imagination and ignite them to life. Evident from their successful previous themes, such as Out of the Wild Sky and Savage Grace, their narratives are honourable displays of Irish storytelling.
